berlin: narcissister at Hof 96

i was really impressed with this girl. if u have a chance to see her perform i recommend you check her out. www.narcissister.com

berlin: making the band

ah let's try something new, shall we? how about, instead of going to parties and checking out people's clothes on the street we go to a concert and live life in the spirit of rocknroll? i spent most of my teenaged youth singing in a band and even though we totally sucked (naturally) it was a really good time. i miss it. so i'm making a shout out: if you
a) are in berlin
b) play an instrument that is relevant to a rock band
c) are good enough at it to come up with great songs while only rehearsing very sporadically
d) are ready to ROCK (and i dont mean hipsterish indie slow-rock)
d) and are down for forming a band with someone who is as fickle, obnoxious and difficult as i am (really a success recipe for the singer of a rock band) then get in touch.

ps: cheers to absolut vodka for giving me free tickets to see wolfmother in concert (yeah!)

THE STREET WALKER

Rakefet - Jerusalem, Yesterday

Omer - Jerusalem, Last Week

... The Sartorialist Book Has Arrived

Gentleman Biker - Vienna, Innere Stadt

Parisait - Paris, Rue Saint-Honoré

Shiran Manya - Tel Aviv, Bar Giora Street

Tel Aviv, Ahad Ha'am Street

Redheaded Lior - Tel Aviv, Dizengoff St

Green Sweet Pea - Haifa, Carmel Center

People’s Park in Berkeley has a revolutionary history and serves as a sanctuary for the homeless. Two great shows open at Jonathan Levine this weekend. Gary Baseman is curating a group show and Jim Houser has a solo show.

Kill Pixie in Berlin at MK Gallery

Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie has a new solo show at MK Gallery in Berlin opening this Saturday. Kill Pixie: Supreme Beings
Exhibition Dates: 24 October – 19 December 2009

In his latest body of work, Kill Pixie’s masked humanoid characters inhabit celestial pools and spas in a futuristic bathhouse where gravity loses all meaning. The humorous candy-colored geometric paintings depict scenes of excessive human consumption and obsession with objects, as the characters worship the almighty dollar. Inspired by folk art, mechanical sciences, structures, and urban culture, Kill Pixie says, “My work is an exploration of the objects and the elements that repeat to infinity, and I am using these elements to illustrate what I am trying to communicate.”

Juxtapoz 15 Year Anniversary Art Auction

Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine celebrates its 15th anniversary with “The Big Payback,” an online charity art auction and a special event in Los Angeles hosted by Upper Playground. The event benefits the non-profit Power House Project of Detroit.
”The Big Payback” auction features original artwork from over 100 national and internationally renowned contemporary artists including: Swoon, CR Stecyk III, Robert Williams, Todd Schorr, Estevan Oriol, Mister Cartoon, Shepard Fairey, Doze Green, Todd “Reas” James, Thomas Campbell, Tim Biskup, KR, Big Daddy Roth, WK Interact, Clayton Brothers, Andrew Schoultz, James Jean, Ron English, David Choe, Mike Giant, Paul Insect, Jeremy Fish, Alex Pardee, Saber, David Ellis, Boogie, D*Face, Cody Hudson & Herbert Baglione.
This means a lot to me and I'm so excited to see two of my favorite art driven companies and so many of my favorite artists lend themselves to such a great cause. I lived in Detroit about 12 years ago. I saw the process of deterioration that the city was under. It was sad, beautiful, and still inspired hope.

Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is probably most everyone I know that is around my age or younger's favorite childhood book. Obviously it's one of mine. The story is sweet and the illustrations are amazing. The thought of making this amazing book into a film is a daunting task. Although after watching the trailer I believe Spike Jonze is up to the task. Using an Arcade Fire track as the theme doesn't hurt either. Where the Wild Things Are comes out October 16th. I can hardly wait.

Andy Kehoe

I love the work of Portland artist Andy Kehoe. You can buy prints of his work through his Etsy shop.

Ferris Plock+Kelly Tunstall’s SEA OF LOVE

This Thursday is the opening of "Sea of Love" at 111 Minna. The latest large-scale collaborative exhibition by San Francisco-based artists Ferris Plock and Kelly Tunstall, "Sea of Love" is an entirely new body of work that explores relationships between sailors and mermaids, stories of lost love and misguided navigation, the diversity of creatures inhabiting the oceans and their individual roles as different vessels of possibility.

Henry Gunderson

Henry Gunderson is not just amazingly talented, but half my age (am I getting old or is he just really young, please don't answer that). He has a solo show coming up this week Thursday July 23rd at Fecal Face Dot Gallery.

Business Savvy Artist?

I know, crazy concept, an artist with business savvy. Yet another reason why Jeff Soto is one of my favorite current artists. The click above is from The RunUp. It's a great movie that includes a number of talented artists.

Shoe Whore

So I never really got the shoe whore thing. I didn't think it would happen to me. I guess it's inevitable. The last few months have been a little out of control. I'm going to sell some stuff today.
Yesterday made it official for me. I bought a fantastic pair of Chie Mihara mary janes and then the cute pair of Prada above for a great price off this blog that I'm apprehensive to share with the world. ;)

Miles Thompson at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

The fun and fabulous Miles Thompson has a solo show opening tonight in LA at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery. Check it out.

Above are the 2 images by Jeff Soto that were part of an exhibit he did at Jonathan Levine in 2006. These are the images I'm basing my tattoo on. Once I've got it started I'll post the images.

I've previously posted about my love of both Jon Todd's work and the amazing Yves Laroche gallery in Montreal. They are currently having an amazing show featuring the work of Martin Wittfooth and Jon Todd.

The first thing that catches my eye when photographing on the streets is a person's hair.
