DEAR FASHION INDUSRTY :

I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO ! SOMEONE SEND ME A JPG FUR TO READ THE FOLLOWING IN - FROM THE DAILY BEAST -  ABOUT SUPERMODEL, DAUL KIM AND HER BOYFRIEND'S BRUTAL INVOLVEMENT WITH HER DEATH - OFF WITH HIS HEAD :

"SHE WAS DEPRESSED, SHE WROTE, ACCORDING TO A TRANSCRIPT OF THE CHAT SEEN BY THE DAILY BEAST. SHE AND HER BOYFRIEND HAD JUST HAD ANOTHER BRUTAL PHYSICAL FIGHT. SHE'D PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE; HE'D YANKED HER HAIR. BUT SHE WAS AFRAID TO LEAVE HIM, AFRAID TO SUFFER THE AGONY OF BEING APART. THE LAST TIME THEY SEPERATED, SHE HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO EAT, DROPPING FORM 112 TO 99 LBS. HER FRIEND BEGGED HER TO LEAVE TOWN, BOOK A JOB, CALL HER MOTHER. NO, SHE SAID. SHE'D MISS HER DOG. SHE ENDED THE CONVERSATION ABRUPTLY, SAYING SHE WAS GOING OFF TO CLEAN THE HOUSE."

Pharrell Williams for Modern Painting

Magazine: Modern Painting
Website: artinfo.com/modernpainters
This month Pharrell Williams shows off his passion for design in the December issue of Modern Painters which is dedicated to Art’s Generation Next. While many artists and celebrities seem to be doing design collaborations these days – from sneakers to accessories – few are taking it to Pharrell’s level. Read more after the jump:

Pharrell’s collaboration with Japanese pop-artist Takashi Murakami called The Simple Things (2008-2009) - a six-foot-tall fiberglass, steel and acrylic head set in gold and encrusted in 26,000 gemstones - sold at Emmanuel Perrotin’s gallery for $2 Million. In the creature’s mouth are seven objects – including a cupcake, a Coke can and a Heinz ketchup bottle – that Williams regards as underappreciated essentials. (“Imagine the public outcry if there were no ketchup for a day?”)

The Grammy Award-winning producer and cofounder of the rock band N.E.R.D. also has a passion for furniture – turning again to Perrotin and the French firm Domeau & Peres to manufacture the “Perspective” chair. (sketch and image below). His newest project with Craig Robins is expected to be unveiled at next month’s Design Miami, but details are still hush-hush.

Pharrell’s definition of art:

“When you’re moved, you’re moved, and if you should seize the moment to express the feeling. It’s that moment of expression that I define as art.”

Tips on How to Recover from Blog Burnout

This post is by Michelle from Wicked Whimsy We’ve all been there: burned out, frustrated, staring at the screen and willing inspiration to come to us. Obviously, the best way to beat burnout is to avoid it, and an older IFB post covers that topic quite well. That doesn’t change the fact that sometimes, burnout sneaks [...]

THE STREET WALKER

Tamar - Tel Aviv, Ha'Sharon Street

So Perfect - Jerusalem, Yesterday

Unexpected Capture - Jordan River, Friday

Rakefet - Jerusalem, Yesterday

Omer - Jerusalem, Last Week

... The Sartorialist Book Has Arrived

Gentleman Biker - Vienna, Innere Stadt

Parisait - Paris, Rue Saint-Honoré

Shiran Manya - Tel Aviv, Bar Giora Street

Kill Pixie in Berlin at MK Gallery

Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie has a new solo show at MK Gallery in Berlin opening this Saturday. Kill Pixie: Supreme Beings
Exhibition Dates: 24 October – 19 December 2009

In his latest body of work, Kill Pixie’s masked humanoid characters inhabit celestial pools and spas in a futuristic bathhouse where gravity loses all meaning. The humorous candy-colored geometric paintings depict scenes of excessive human consumption and obsession with objects, as the characters worship the almighty dollar. Inspired by folk art, mechanical sciences, structures, and urban culture, Kill Pixie says, “My work is an exploration of the objects and the elements that repeat to infinity, and I am using these elements to illustrate what I am trying to communicate.”

Juxtapoz 15 Year Anniversary Art Auction

Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine celebrates its 15th anniversary with “The Big Payback,” an online charity art auction and a special event in Los Angeles hosted by Upper Playground. The event benefits the non-profit Power House Project of Detroit.
”The Big Payback” auction features original artwork from over 100 national and internationally renowned contemporary artists including: Swoon, CR Stecyk III, Robert Williams, Todd Schorr, Estevan Oriol, Mister Cartoon, Shepard Fairey, Doze Green, Todd “Reas” James, Thomas Campbell, Tim Biskup, KR, Big Daddy Roth, WK Interact, Clayton Brothers, Andrew Schoultz, James Jean, Ron English, David Choe, Mike Giant, Paul Insect, Jeremy Fish, Alex Pardee, Saber, David Ellis, Boogie, D*Face, Cody Hudson & Herbert Baglione.
This means a lot to me and I'm so excited to see two of my favorite art driven companies and so many of my favorite artists lend themselves to such a great cause. I lived in Detroit about 12 years ago. I saw the process of deterioration that the city was under. It was sad, beautiful, and still inspired hope.

Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is probably most everyone I know that is around my age or younger's favorite childhood book. Obviously it's one of mine. The story is sweet and the illustrations are amazing. The thought of making this amazing book into a film is a daunting task. Although after watching the trailer I believe Spike Jonze is up to the task. Using an Arcade Fire track as the theme doesn't hurt either. Where the Wild Things Are comes out October 16th. I can hardly wait.

This Thursday is the opening of "Sea of Love" at 111 Minna. The latest large-scale collaborative exhibition by San Francisco-based artists Ferris Plock and Kelly Tunstall, "Sea of Love" is an entirely new body of work that explores relationships between sailors and mermaids, stories of lost love and misguided navigation, the diversity of creatures inhabiting the oceans and their individual roles as different vessels of possibility.

Henry Gunderson is not just amazingly talented, but half my age (am I getting old or is he just really young, please don't answer that). He has a solo show coming up this week Thursday July 23rd at Fecal Face Dot Gallery.

Business Savvy Artist?

I know, crazy concept, an artist with business savvy. Yet another reason why Jeff Soto is one of my favorite current artists. The click above is from The RunUp. It's a great movie that includes a number of talented artists.

Shoe Whore

So I never really got the shoe whore thing. I didn't think it would happen to me. I guess it's inevitable. The last few months have been a little out of control. I'm going to sell some stuff today.
Yesterday made it official for me. I bought a fantastic pair of Chie Mihara mary janes and then the cute pair of Prada above for a great price off this blog that I'm apprehensive to share with the world. ;)

Miles Thompson at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

The fun and fabulous Miles Thompson has a solo show opening tonight in LA at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery. Check it out.

Jeff Soto tattoo

Above are the 2 images by Jeff Soto that were part of an exhibit he did at Jonathan Levine in 2006. These are the images I'm basing my tattoo on. Once I've got it started I'll post the images.

Martin Wittfooth and Jon Todd at Yves Laroche

I've previously posted about my love of both Jon Todd's work and the amazing Yves Laroche gallery in Montreal. They are currently having an amazing show featuring the work of Martin Wittfooth and Jon Todd.

Jane South

I love the very architectural work of Jane South. Above are a few images from her last show at Spencer Brownstone Gallery in NY. Check more out here.

New Dalek Art

I love love love the new work by Dalek. You can check out the new work being stalled for a new show on his blog.

GRSF Anniversary

Tomorrow night is the opening reception and party for Giant Robot SF's 15 year anniversary party. Looks to be a great event.

AJ Fosik at WhiteWalls SF

It's been a while since I posted, but this one is a good one. One of my favorite artists has a new show opening tonight at WhiteWalls SF. Check out AJ Fosik this weekend through July 4th.

Stil in Berlin in print

We broadened our efforts to bring you something new - in cooperation with Don't Panic and Supermarkt Studio, we published our first printed issue. It's all about Winter Vintage Fashion and includes fine and exclusive photography of outstanding winter styles, an interview with Berlin's Nightboutique host Roman Vardijan on how to track down extraordinary vintage delicacies, and an all-new guide to nine excellent Berlin vintage shops you might have never heard of.

The magazine is a free supplement to the Don't Panic Berlin December issue (also free), which you find in stores, bars, cinemas and restaurants now. (Click here to see a choice of 40 locations.)
For all those, who don't live in Berlin we offer the possibility to order it by mail - just send an email to stilinberlin@gmail.com to get the details. (Charge for mailing in Germany: 4 Euros, Europe: 7 Euros, International: 10 Euros / 15$)

Cut!

The first thing that catches my eye when photographing on the streets is a person's hair. A great haircut is almost always accompanied by a great sense of style, and anyone that's been to Berlin can notice almost immediately that there are some truly unique (for better or for worse) hairstyles on the streets. And so, while we're forced to cover up in bulky winter coats during these winter months, I've decided to start a new side-feature on Stil in Berlin, which I'm calling 'Cut!' So here's the first.
